About Pilates

At our studio, we teach Pilates from the perspective of conscious exercise and movement re-education.This means paying full attention with your mind and body while you are exercising. Our intention is for you to get the most benefit from your movement practices, and develop a more intelligent and balanced body.

Regardless of your age or fitness level, our expert teachers will ensure you get the most effective results from your practice, taking into account your goals, issues or injuries.

Based on the teachings of Joseph H. Pilates, this complete system of exercise will help create a balance of both strength and mobility, and promote coordination and awareness.

It focuses the mind to work with the body. Involving full body participation, movements originate from the core of the body outward. Pilates is practiced both on the floor (mat), and with special spring-loaded equipment (Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Arc).

Regular practice will help to develop strength, stability, graceful and efficient movement and breath control. The body and mind become light, lifted and energised.

WHO IS PILATES FOR?

The Pilates Method can work for everyone regardless of fitness level and age. Exercises are safe for those with back problems (and don’t forget that 95% of the population has or has had backache). The Pilates Method is a perfect compliment to many of your sporting or recreational activities. The improved strength, mobility and balance that Pilates provides, benefits the active sports person or the casual exerciser.

WHAT TO WEAR/BRING?

Wear comfortable workout clothes, but nothing too baggy as this may make it harder for your teacher to help you with your posture and alignment. Shoes are not required, so bring a clean pair of socks or you are welcome to go barefoot. You can also bring a water bottle.

FREQUENCY

Pilates is an effective and safe form of exercise and can be practiced every day. To gain the maximum benefits we recommend that you do it at least three times per week, whether in a group class, studio or one to one session or at home.
